Benhill-Crescent Horticultural Society is an active not-for-profit society for allotment holders and gardeners, based at the Benhill Allotment site in Benhill Road, Sutton.
With origins going back to 1957, the society currently has approximately 250 members from around the borough and beyond.
Even if you’re not an allotment holder, you can become a member and take advantage of the great prices at the Trading Hut.
You can also be part of the many social events throughout the year, sharing expertise, time and fun with like-minded people. Most events are free and all members are welcome to attend.
Call in to the Trading Hut at Benhill Road on any Sunday morning to join.

Every year we select a charity to support.
MERU is part of Queen Elizabeth's Foundation Group and aim to improve the lives of disabled children, by creating new possibilities. We design and make a wide range of specialist assistive equipment.

The society runs two horticultural shows for members to exhibit their hard work and skills in a friendly competitive environment.
It’s not all about winning – it’s great fun to enter and show off your hard work.

Summer Show
'Spud in a Tub' and new for 2024 'Beet It'
Games for all the family - bring a picnic from 12pm
at the Allotment Site
Sunday 7th July 2024
This show is open to all BCHS members to exhibit, but also includes the Spud-in-a-Tub competition which is for all members. Buy your 'spud' and tub 3 entries for £1 from the Trading Hut and start growing!
The “Gordon Bennett” Trophy is awarded to the grower of the greatest total weight of potatoes grown from a single seed potato. Each entry will be laid out on a tray, noting weight and number of potatoes. While the most pathetic entry will win the ‘Tryarda Trophy’.
This is a competition that pits family members against each other… but all in the name of fun! This year the winner will win BCHS £10 voucher.
'Beet It' is a new competition for 2024 where the challenge is to grow beetroot for the Summer Show. Entries are £1 for an envelop of seeds and this includes your show entry. Show up to three of your best beetroot grown from the seeds in the envelop. More details in the Show Schedule. There will be a prize for the winner and the runner up.
The Autumn Show at Benhill Allotment Site
Sunday 1st September 2024
This show is open to any member to enter.
There are 100 classes to enter in a variety of sections:
vegetables
fruit
flowers
plants
floral art and flower arranging
art and handicraft
photography
domestic
junior sections
The show is open to the public from 2pm. Refreshments are on sale and all proceeds from the raffle, refreshment sales and plant sales are donated to the society’s chosen charity for the year.
